Utah State Track Meet

Rockwell has said all season that it would be so cool to qualify for State as a freshman. He accomplished his goal and loves to have the shirt to prove it. :) The coaches did a bbq at Jody's house for everyone who qualified, and Rockwell really enjoyed that.

The State Meet is held at BYU and I could just sit and enjoy that view all day long!
The 4x800 relay was on Friday. Timpanogos went in ranked 13th, and they were in the first of two heats.

Soren was first, followed by Joel, then Luke, and Rockwell was the anchor.
Rockwell ran an incredible leg! His time for his split was 2:00!!! So so good!!! He was staying right with the kid from Snow Canyon on both laps, but was very frustrated that he couldn't beat him in the final stretch. Having amazing finishes is Rockwell's specialty, and he feels like asthma has taken that away from him. It always hits him right at the last 200 meters, which totally restricts him from his incredible 100m finish. It was hard for him to finish out in such a restricted, painful way. It took him some time to be able to celebrate how well he had done, and focus less on the frustration of his asthma.
They had an incredible PR! 15 seconds faster than when they qualified!! The coaches ran over, so excited for them. They watched closely as the second heat of teams ran to see where they would fall in the rankings. They finished in 7th place!!! The coaches thought they were medaling out 8 places on the podium so they were so excited, but it turns out they only did the top 3 teams for relays. Moving up from 13th place to 7th place is incredible though! Awesome job Rockwell, Soren, Joel, and Luke!!!
The 4x400 relay was on Saturday. Jody switched things up for this team. It was Brody, then Matt, then Rockwell, then Wyatt. I don't think Matt or Wyatt have ever run the 400 relay, but they did well.
They went in ranked 21 out of 21 teams, but finished in 18th place. It was a PR for their team, with a time of 3:33.38. They didn't feel nearly as much pressure on this team, they were just happy to be racing at State. Rockwell said it was fun. He ran his split in 52 seconds, and didn't have any asthma.
Congratulations on qualifying for State as a freshman Rockwell!! And for doing so so well at it too!!

  1. Way to go Rockwell. That is a huge accomplishment to make it to state as a Freshman, or ever, especially with his asthma. Poor guy, that would be so frustrating!
