It rained a whole lot through the night from Saturday to Sunday. We woke up to an Emergency Alert blaring on our phones Sunday morning. We had planned to get up early and go to Tunnels Beach, but that's down the hill in a low-lying area and so we turned our alarms off and slept in instead.
We thought Anini Beach would be our best bet of an open beach.....and so did everyone else. Haha. It was very crowded. Anini is usually very clear water and a good place for snorkeling, but the water was brown from all the run-off that day.
Paul and the kids tried swimming out beyond the dirt to snorkel, but the current was really strong and it was hard to get anywhere.
There were a lot of big shells higher up on the shore stuck in tree roots, and so we collected shells for a while, and then the kids played in the little stream.
We thought things were probably cleared up by mid day, so we tried to go down to Hanalei for lunch. The waterfall on Mount Waialeale was humungous after all that rain!
The road down to Hanalei was closed still. We looked up news articles and saw that the river had totally flooded over the road and the bridge.
Luckily Bali Hai has food trucks on site every day. We got some lunch there and ate at our condo.
The Dole Whip truck was there that day so we got some of that too. :)
I took the kids swimming for the rest of the afternoon. We saw this family of chickens and I thought it was so cute. The rooster usually isn't around with the chicken and chicks, but this guy was sticking with his family. :)
That night we went to North Shore Shave Ice.
