Matt and Lori bought their own condo at Rocky Point!! They have been dreaming and planning and saving for this for a long time and I'm so happy for them that it's a reality now! There was a week of overlap where they officially owned their new condo, and were also still renting the other condo. They said it seemed like a waste to not use both, so we thought it would be the perfect time for Dad to try traveling there. He's been very concerned about traveling with the health issues he's having. When he heard that he could have his own bedroom and bathroom, he agreed to try. We were so sad that Gary couldn't get away during tax season to come too. We missed having him there!
I went straight from Tessa's Wyoming meet to the airport and met Dad, Mel and Al there. Dad showed us this picture in his suitcase and said, "I don't go anywhere without this." So sweet!
We flew to Mesa and spent the night at Matt & Lori's, and then we got up early Sunday morning and drove to Rocky Point. We took Dad right out onto the balcony when we got there. He was very impressed and said, "I see why you love it here!"
We got settled and changed into our swimsuits and headed down to the beach. :)
I was really looking forward to swimming in the ocean, but there were jelly fish all along the water line. There was one about every two feet, so it really wasn't worth the risk of getting stung.
I decided to try the pools instead and was shocked that the big pool (not heated) actually felt amazing. I swam for a while and enjoyed the views from there.
We had a delicious lasagna dinner that evening.
And watched the sunset from the balcony.
Al went down and got some great pictures with the palm trees.
I went running on the beach every morning. It was so fun!
It's a 5-mile run to the pier and back and I really wanted to make it all the way this time. I made it this far. Haha. I jump over a lot of little streams along the beach, but this river was too big for me to make it over without soaking my shoes. I'll call this close enough though!
Matt and Dad walked on the beach Monday morning. The jelly fish were all along the beach with the tide out.
Al, Matt and Dad did some shopping that morning and picked up tortillas, beans, rice, salsa and chicken. We had that for lunch and then us siblings headed down to the beach.
We hung out on Matt's balcony that night, and Dad told us that his lunch wasn't sitting well with him. As the night went on, he really started to feel bad and decided to just go to bed. I felt so bad that he was feeling so bad.
The sunrise with the full moon was gorgeous on my run the next morning!
We went and hung out with Dad that morning. He was feeling a little better, but still not good, and very tired.
We went back down to the beach when Dad was ready to lay down again.
I love to see the hummingbirds that live there!
Al went down to the water for sunset pictures that night. Gorgeous!!
Dad was feeling better the next day, but still not up for leaving the condo. I got to spend a few hours visiting with him while he used the Bemer on his back. It was so fun to learn things about his childhood and teenage years and about his mom and dad. Sandy found this picture a few days before and sent it to him. He loved this seminary teacher and had fun stories about him. He was wondering what ever happened to him, so I tried to find him on Facebook. I think I found him, and sent him this picture and a message, but sadly he hasn't responded.
We spent the afternoon on the beach again.
Matt, Al, and I walked over to the resort next door to get some pina coladas. There's a window that you can order from on the beach, so Al and I didn't take our shoes. Sadly, the window was closed that day, but the waitress in the restaurant said they would make us pina coladas still. Al and I felt funny inside the restaurant without shoes on. We decided to just wait outside for them. :)
They were delicious!!
Dad was feeling good enough to open his birthday presents that night. Matt and Lori got him some funny gifts. A candle that looks like Bath & Body Works, but it's actually Back & Body Hurts.
He was both confused and amused by the Shart Kit. Haha! We all had some good laughs as he read the box and the instructions inside.
We got him some signs from vendors on the beach that he can hang in his garage. One said Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point in Spanish) and one said Liee Is Good. Haha! We thought it said Life Is Good, but apparently there's no F, just two Es. We've had fun saying "Li-ee is good" since then. :)
We got to exercise Thursday morning, clean out the rental condo, and then drive back to Mesa. Although Dad really didn't feel good and wasn't able to do much of anything he wanted to, I'm sure glad we got that time to visit with him. He said he's glad he went, even if only to know with certainty that traveling is not something he's able to do at this point. We got dinner at Salad and Go with Lori, and then flew back to Utah. I'm grateful to Matt and Lori for a super fun trip and for all they did to make it possible for us to go. Li-ee is good!!

That sunrise picture is beautiful! It was great having that time together.
