Track Meets

 Rockwell has had his first two track meets so far. The coaches are doing things a little different this year. They are choosing the events the kids do and making sure everyone does 4 events. Last year, the kids got to choose how many they did and which ones. Rockwell wasn't excited about this change, but I do think he's discovered a new event he wants to compete now, so maybe the coaches do know what they're doing. ;)

The first meet was at Timpanogos, and Rockwell started with the long jump. It was raining when the meet started and the track was very slippery. Rockwell slipped and scratched 2 of his 3 jumps and was pretty frustrated with that. Luckily he got one good jump in and got 14 and a half feet on it.

He ran the 1600m and did amazing on it. He finished in 5.47.2 (11th place). Next up for him was the 800m.

He kept up with Grant, and was able to pull ahead of him right at the end. He's never beaten Grant in a race, and he was so excited about that!! :) He finished in 2:27.7 (6th place)

His last event was the 4x400 relay. This is the event where Drew's absence was really felt. :( He's sure missed by all these kids. Grant has taken Drew's place on their relay team, so it was supposed to be Levi, Luke, Rockwell, and Grant. Sadly Luke hurt his knee pretty bad during the 800m though, so Joe ended up filling in for him. Rockwell ran anchor and absolutely killed it!! He ran his 400 in 60 seconds flat. It was amazing! The whole team finished in 4.17.9 (2nd place). Nice job boys!!

The second track meet was at Lakeridge Junior High. Rockwell got to run the 1600m again, and absolutely smoked it. He PR-ed for sure! He finished in 5.25.3 (5th place)!!

He also ran the 400m. He ran it in 59.87 and took 1st place!!! He wasn't excited for running sprints, he says he's a distance runner. But I would guess that he won't be upset to run the 400 again. :) He liked it better than he thought he would.

He was also assigned the 200m and did great on that one too. He finished in 27.12 (3rd place). And last was the 4x400 relay. This time Luke and Joe weren't there, so Dhiren filled in. They finished in 4.20.3 which was 2nd place. It was a really great meet for Rockwell!
