Kaua'i Day 5

Rockwell and I went on a run together Sunday morning. I don't think I've ever run so fast, as I did trying to keep up with Rockwell. Haha!

We went to Hideaways Beach and Rockwell thought it was amazing too. He found a swing on the beach so we each took a turn. :)
I definitely did not keep up with him on this trail up from the beach!! He ran it like it was nothing... and then waited for me at the top. :) I also don't think either of us have ever been as sweaty as we were by the time we got back home. We both stood directly under the air conditioner to dry our dripping bodies and clothes. It was a real hot day! I can't think of a better way to start the day though. Running and chatting with my son along the coast, to a beautiful beach. I loved it!

Paul enjoyed a nice sushi brunch on the lanai.
Damon named the rooster that was always outside our lanai Jeffrey. We enjoyed waking up to Jeffrey's crowing each morning.

We spent the afternoon kayaking and paddle boarding the Hanalei River.
You could either go upstream to a wildlife refuge or go downstream to the Bay. With the size of the waves this time of year, we decided not to go out into the ocean. So we headed upstream to see the birds and turtles. :)
There were flowers floating all over the water and Tessa and Damon thought it was fun to collect them.
Rockwell picked right up on paddle boarding and really enjoyed it!!
Damon found a coconut floating in the river and was so excited to pull it out of the water. :)
We saw quite a few NeNe's, Great Egrets, and turtles along the way. The turtles were little ones that were so cute.
It was so beautiful everywhere you looked!
We went underneath the bridge at the bottom of the hill. They were doing some construction on the bridge this time, so it's covered in some tarp-like material.
Damon kept track of his coconut the whole time and really wanted to take it home and eat it. We didn't have any equipment to open it though, sadly. The knives in our condo wouldn't have been able to get through it.
There were a couple places where it was a little tricky to get through the trees, but we figured it out. :)
We made it to the turn-around spot and decided to get out and swim for a while. It was so so hot this day! Tessa and I would hang our feet out the side of the kayak so they could be in the water, and splash water onto ourselves, but we were still needing more cooling-down by this point.
It felt so good to submerse our whole bodies in the river!!
After we were cooled off, we headed back downstream.
It was a really fun way to spend the day! We took a couple pictures by their fun signs, and then it was definitely time for some shave ice!!
A new place called Sunrise Shave Ice opened in Princeville, really close to our condo, so we gave that a try. It was delicious!!
This became Rockwell's #1 favorite shave ice place.

That night we stayed at the condo and played yard games and swam in the pool. It was another really great day!

  1. I love that you and Rockwell run together. It's so great that you have that way to connect with him and spend time with him. Every picture is so beautiful! Why don't we live there?
