Aiden and Ashton invited Rockwell to join the lacrosse team they're on (Pleasant Grove Vikings). We watched a few videos on YouTube so we could see what lacrosse even was. :) Rockwell decided he wanted to play so we signed him up. It's a super physical game and so they wear a lot of protective gear.
He really enjoyed practices and came home every time super excited to show us what he had learned. One of the dads from the team gave us an extra stick so we could practice with him. That was so nice of him. We've enjoyed playing with Rockwell at home and learning about a new sport.
The first game was pretty shocking to be honest. We couldn't tell the difference in what was legal and what was a foul. It all just looked like the boys were hitting and pushing each other...which they were. :) We learned that hits above the shoulders and below the waist are the illegal ones.
Rockwell played Middie (midfield). He got to do the face-off one time, which was fun to try.
Rockwell was very hot and cold about lacrosse once the games started. At first he loved practice, but didn't enjoy the games. Then he didn't enjoy anything about it and definitely didn't want to play again after this season. And then he eventually settled on loving practices, liking games, and wanting to play again in the Spring. :) We're totally fine with whatever he decides about playing lacrosse in the future, we just think it's awesome he tried something new and worked hard at it.
I loved when they had home games because the fields they play on have gorgeous views of the mountains.
Rockwell had some good plays all throughout the season, but his last game was full of really good plays. He caught the ball, passed successfully to the offense, took a lot of hits, gave some good hits, got knocked down, and got back up again. It was really fun to watch him learn and progress and get better throughout the season. Good job Rockwell!!
It was fun for us to find out a little about Lacrosse and to watch him play a couple of games which he played well in. That's great that he was willing to try something new and work hard at it! I agree, good job Rockwell!!
