Kauai Day 7

 On Sunday we left Bali Hai and checked into the Waipouli Beach Resort in Kapa'a. We spent the morning playing ping pong and foosball before we left Bali Hai.

Then we drove down to Spouting Horn. It's a cool place with a few holes in the rocks. When the waves come in, the water shoots up through the holes and it sounds like a dragon breathing fire. 

Off to the side of Spouting Horn there was a little inlet with some turtles swimming. We had some time until we could check into our new place, and so we just watched the turtles and the spout for a while.

There were baby chicks all over the island this time. They were really cute to see.

We love to drive through this tree tunnel.

We got some dinner and did a little shopping and then checked into the Waipouli Beach Resort. Our condo was really nice! I loved the hummingbird pillows on our bed. :)

The kids thought the koi pond was fun.

We were all excited to check out the pool and the waterslides that night!!

Kauai Day 6

 On Saturday we tried to go to Tunnels Beach again. We got there even earlier since it was the weekend, but sadly we weren't able to get a parking spot this time. We circled around many many times, but nothing opened up. We headed over to Hanalei Bay instead.

We rented some beach chairs and an umbrella in town. It was well worth the money to have some shade and comfort. :)

We brought ice cream bananas with us and the kids ate so many of them. I should have taken a picture of the pile of peels. We love ice cream bananas!

The boys played catch in the water and went and jumped off the pier again. Tessa didn't want to so I stayed back with her.

Paul went out snorkeling for a while and the kids played in the sand.

I got to do some reading. 

I went out to the car to get the snorkel gear and saw Bethany Hamilton and her husband and kids walking over to the beach. I debated about saying hi, but chickened out. Paul and I saw that they were over at the river and decided to go talk to them. When we got close though we saw that Bethany was in the middle of a conversation with some friends and we didn't want to interrupt. Paul took a sneaky picture of her in the background instead. 

We ate dinner at Frederico's again and then got some more JoJo's.

I took the kids swimming at the pool that night.

Kauai Day 5

 On Friday morning the boys and I went and played ping pong and foosball. 

Rockwell's at the age where he jumps to touch the top of every single doorway he passes, and where he can't keep his hands to himself. At least Damon and Tessa don't seem to mind that he constantly picks them up or is poking them.

Then I took the kids to see the fish in the ponds.

I wanted another picture of them on this bench so we could see how much they've grown since our last trip here.

They've grown up so much!!

We drove down to Lihue to do a tubing adventure. We started off with a bus ride up to the property. Our guide told us the history of the land on the ride.

We stopped at the lookout for Mount Wai'Ale'Ale. It was beautiful!

We were each in our own tube, and we floated down the old irrigation ditches on the sugar plantations. There were 5 tunnels we went through. We would turn on the lights on our helmets so we could see inside the tunnels, except for the last tunnel. We did that one in the pitch dark. You just tuck in your feet and elbows and hope you don't hit anything too hard. :) We didn't have our phones with us on the water, and we didn't think the pictures the guides took were worth buying. I took one picture of another group getting out of the water as we passed by in the bus.

They drove us over to a little swimming hole and fed us dinner. We didn't bring our towels with us so we decided not to swim.

It was a fun little adventure and we were all glad we did it.

Kauai Day 4

 The parking was super limited at Tunnels Beach, so we knew we needed to get there early. Even with getting there early, there were no spots left. We drove up the road, turned around, and when we came back somebody was leaving and we were able to get their spot. We were so lucky!!!

We chose a spot in the shade for all our stuff and then spent the day in the water.

We kept looking at the scenery and commenting on how beautiful it is there!

Damon worked hard to bring his favorite rock up from shore to the treeline with our stuff. :)

We stayed until we didn't have any more shade covering us. Then we decided it was time for some dinner and shave ice!

We ate at Frederico's. That's our favorite restaurant in Hanalei. The taco salad and shrimp tacos are so delicious!

The line was long at JoJo's of course. The kids and I saved a table in the shade while Paul ordered. When Tessa went to pick hers up from the counter I told her to walk while carrying her shave ice. She came speed walking/running back with it and tripped up the stairs. Her shave ice spilled on the stairs, and her face landed in it. (Now that we're not in the moment of it, we get a good laugh about her face being covered in it. :) I gave her napkins to clean up her face and started cleaning up the spilled shave ice. A woman came up and said her group was next up to order and asked what flavor Tessa had gotten. She said she was going to order her another one. It was so sweet of her to do that!!! I tried to give her cash to pay for it but she wouldn't accept any. She said to just do something nice for someone else. It was a very cool thing for us all to see and talk about together. I love kind people!!
